Yakutiye Madrasah
The Peak of Ilhanid Art: Yakutiye Medresesi
One of the iconic structures of Erzurum, Yakutiye Medresesi was constructed in 1310 during the reign of Ilhanid ruler Sultan Olcaytu and is the largest and most magnificent example of closed courtyard madrasas in Anatolia. Rising in the center of the city, this historical structure takes its visitors on a journey through history with its remarkable details in stone craftsmanship and especially the unique tile decorations on its minaret.
The life tree, eagle, and lion figures on the crown gate, which is the monumental entrance of the madrasa, are among the most valuable details carrying the deep symbolism of Turkish-Islamic art to our present day. Today, this place serves as a “Turkish-Islamic Art and Ethnography Museum” and hosts handicrafts and historical objects that illuminate Erzurum’s deep-rooted history.
Located in the center of Erzurum, The Erzurum Hotel offers its guests the advantage of being very close to this unique work and other historical treasures in its vicinity.
